The value bet in the 4-20 at Aintree is Chaninbar. I make him 16/1 and took Ladbroke’s 25/1 early price. His latest run at Sandown came too soo so can be ignored, otherwise a couple of wins this season already and decent Topspeed figures.

Pigeon Island and Consigliere are both on 8/1; Chapoturgeon and Safari Journey 11/1; Oiseau de Nuit 12/1; Chaninbar and Nikola 13/1; Doctor David and Kilnackilloge 14/1; I have Lord Jay Jay at 16/1 – I backed him last year at this meeting when he came 2nd at 40/1, trained then by Venetia Williams; he hasn’t run for 320 days this time though goes well fresh it seems – potentially the fly in the ointment? At 14/1 Corals he is not value given that doubt – simply no reason other than sentiment to look at him this time.

Update: the rubbish bet at Taunton this afternoon (Rince Donn in the 4-10, still jumping the last as the winner passed the post :-() pales against this result. A beautiful ride by Sean Quinlan, making all after a flying start. He jumped easily and was never in danger once the field had strung out. Very nice to watch and took 25/1 this morning!

Note to self, watch for front runners round the Mildmay course.
