Common Diva’s recent runs are better than they look, I would suggest. Her last run was described by the RP as ‘ran well for a long way on this return to handicaps.’ Prior to that, she was outclassed in a Listed event and on good to soft ground, which run can be discounted. Three runs back was her first on grass for a long while and she ‘ran a cracking race in defeat.’ She has a Topspeed rating of 93 here, way ahead of the 2nd rated of 85 and a nice price at 16/1.

At Ripon this evening, Wovoka has quickened or ‘burst through’ in all his recent runs and appears to have found a new seam of form. A trainer quote provides an explanation:

13Apr09 Redcar
“He was one of about ten horses we turned out with no rugs or shoes on and they were out in all sorts of weather and were only brought into a fold-yard when it was really bad. It seems to have done the trick. He seems to be enjoying his racing again now.He was a good horse when Mick had him and he seems to be coming back to that form now. Tony has given him a great ride. How you find cover in a six-runner race on a straight course I don’t know, but he managed it” David Barker

It is the sort of change which has to be followed while it lasts and hopefully it will today. Cappuci would have been my other horse in this and there was money for Benandonner this morning.
